Chimney Fire - 10817 Redwood Lane
Saturday, January 30, 2010

At 0626 hours, the Berlin Fire Company was alerted for a residential structure fire. Showell was also alerted for a tanker to fill the first alarm box assignment. While units were responding, Worcester Central advised that there was a report of flames showing with possibly people trapped inside the residence. Firefighter Mike Ellingsworth was first to arrive, reporting a possible chimney fire with all occupants out of the residence. Chief Derrick Simpson arrived in Command 6 and established "Redwood Lane Command." The crew of Engine 604 confirmed reports of a chimney fire. Crews laddered the roof and used chains to assist interior crews with putting out the fire. Interior crews used a positive pressure fan and used a dry chemical extinguisher to put out the fire. The fire was placed under control shortly after and all units returned to service by 0730 hours.
