Surprise House Fire for Engine 604 - 8416 Burbage Road

At 07:08 hours Berlin Fire Company was alerted for an outside fire in the area of 8416 Burbage Road. The caller advised she was across the creek and could see black smoke and flames, however could not advised what was on fire. As the Engine approached they could see heavy black smoke. Once they arrived they encountered an Electronic gate, FF/EMT M. Cropper climbed over the gate and began walking the long drive way while the Engine Company was attempting to gain access through the gate for the Engine. After the Engine Company received a pass-code for the gate, Firefighter Cropper rounded the corner of the driveway to find a house on fire with heavy fire throughout the first floor and extending into the second floor of a 2 story single family dwelling. With assistance from the Ocean City, Ocean Pines, and Showell Fire departments the fire was successfully extinguished without any injuries after approximately 3 hours. Weather was a great factor while battling this blaze as it began to snow with freezing rain during this incident.
