Double Fatal MVC with Rescue - Route 50 WB east of Logtown Rd.
Friday, August 15, 2008
At 2342 hours, the Berlin Fire Company was alerted for a motor vehicle accident. While en route to the station, reports updated from Worcester Central advised possible entrapment. Third Assistant Chief Bill Tilghman was first to arrive on scene, confirming a single vehicle crash, vehicle versus a tree in the median of Route 50 westbound, just east of Logtown Road. Assistant Chief Tilghman confirmed 2 patients trapped, established command and requested an ALS unit from Ocean Pines as well as Maryland State Trooper 4. Engine 604 and 600 Paramedic-1 arrived at the same time and went to work stabilizing the vehicle and beginning the extrication process. Paramedic Donohoe assessed both patients and determined both to be priority 4. Command placed MSP Trooper 4 and 1100 Paramedic-1 in service and requested a medical examiner to respond. Upon arrival and completion of the investigation by the medical examiner, both patients were removed from the vehicle. The scene was turned over to Worcester County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Police shortly after. Assistant Chief Tilghman terminated command as all units cleared the scene to respond to a second crash at Route 113 and Germantown Road.
