House Fire - Libertytown Road
Monday, September 1, 2008
At 1525 hours, the box alarm was dispatched for a residential structure fire. Worcester Central advised a report of smoke and fire showing from the rear of the structure. Chief Bryon Trimble requested an additional engine from Powellville to be added to the box. Engine 1103 arrived just before Engine 604 and Deputy Chief Matt Owens reporting smoke showing from a 2 story house. Chief Bryon Trimble established command and crews went to work, placing three 1 3/4" handlines in service. While crews worked on the interior to try to extinguish the fire, located mainly in the rear of the structure, an explosion occured. Chief Trimble advised all crews to immediately evacuate the building. Once all crews were accounted for, a defensive operation was set in place to contain the fire. An additional tanker was requested from Newark to the scene. Crews worked until approximately 1800 hours until being placed in service. A special thanks to Newark and Showell for providing standby coverage at Berlin Headquarters during the fire.
