Auto Extrication Drill: Hybrid Cars and Vehicle Stabilization - Berlin Fire Headquarters

At 1830 hours on Monday, October 6th, a drill was held at Berlin Fire Headquarters. The drill consisted of a powerpoint presentation on Hybrid cars. Assistant Chief Duane Phillips spoke about Hybrid cars, challenges that emergency responders will face when responding to crashes and fires involving Hybrid vehicles, and how to safely manage these scenes. This was followed by a demonstration of how to operate the new Paratech 3-Strut vehicle stabilization kit that was recently placed in service on Engine 604. This portion of the drill was lead by Captain Eric Budd, with the assistance of Assistant Chiefs Bill Tilghman and Duane Phillips and Lieutenant David Haines. Airbags were also used as part of the demonstration. The drill was completed by 2030 hours.
