Funeral Service for VA Firefighter Clark - Chincoteague, VA

The officers and members of the Berlin Fire Company extend our sympathy to the Clark family and to the members of the Atlantic Fire and Rescue Company during their time of loss. The following report was taken from www.firehouse.com: ATLANTIC, Va. -- Funeral services will be held this week for an Eastern Shore volunteer firefighter who died battling a brush fire Friday near New Church. William "Hal" Clark, 54, of Atlantic, worked for the Public Works and Water departments of Chincoteague, according to his obituary. He was president of the Atlantic Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company and had been a member of the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company. The company protects an area of 26 square miles where 1,500 people live, according to Facebook. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Union Baptist Church in Chincoteague. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Salyer Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Clark was one of two firefighters taken to a hospital after fighting the blaze off U.S. 13, according to DelmarvaNow.com. Clark was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other firefighter was treated for exhaustion and released. Clark was remembered by his colleagues for his kindness and his volunteer work, according to the site. McClatchy-Tribune News Service
